Mars’ South Pole at Springtime
This image was taken by the ESA’s Mars Express and was released on June 7th, 2011 to celebrate the spacecraft’s 8 years in space. This location is actually over 1000 kilometers away from the south pole where the ice is quite thin. Nearer to the south pole on mars, ice can be as thick as 3.7 kilometers.
